Introduction to Travel Health

This course is over two days and you will need to attend both parts to be trained and received your CPD certificate

This is essential training is for practice nurses new to travel health and for nurses and registered health professionals planning to deliver travel health advice in other healthcare settings.
In conjunction with this training, HCP’s new to travel will benefit from working with an experienced mentor in practice.
Aim:

- To discuss and consolidate learning in accordance with the minimum competencies as outlined in the competency framework for travel health nurses (RCN, 2018).
Learning Outcomes:

- To understand the necessity of thorough risk assessment covering nine major travel risk headings.
- To raise awareness of NHS/Primary care guidance with regard to delivery of travel health.
- Discuss travel related disease epidemiology.
- Be aware of vaccines used in travel medicine and the schedules and circumstances in which they are offered.
- Discuss case studies.
- Raise awareness of malaria risk and available chemoprophylaxis.
- Be aware of vector borne disease and bite avoidance measures.
- Discuss resources for support and further learning for healthcare professionals in the field of travel medicine.
